Aleksandr Krushelnitskii, the Russian athlete was found guilty of an anti-doping violation after the tests established the presence of banned meldonium. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) claimed this as Reuters reported.
According to the CAS, the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) of the mixed doubles curling team who won the bronze medal had been disqualified from the competition over the violation.
It was reported that Krushelnitskii accepted the provisional suspension beyond the period of the Olympics and reserved his rights to seek the elimination or reduction of any period of ineligibility following the Games.
The CAS canceled the hearing of this case at the request of Krushelnitskii, the International Olympic Committee and the World Curling Federation. Also, Krushelnitskii and his wife Anastasia Bryzgalova have agreed to surrender their medals, according to the Russian curling federation.Dmitry Svishchev, the president of the federation expressed the hope that the surrender of the medal is the temporary measure.
Moreover, Pavel Kolobkov, the Sports Minister of Russia claimed that the hope that the doping incident in Pyeongchang will not influence the IOC’s deliberations on whether to let Russia regain full Olympic status. Earlier the IOC claimed that it is possible that the Russians can march with the flag of their country and in their national uniform at the closing ceremony of the Games on Sunday.
