Former WBC world lightweight champion Victor Postol was supposed to face WBC and WBO unified champion Jose Ramirez on May 9, but the fight was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was the second time the fight got canceled.
However, according to Sports Illustrated, Jose Ramirez is going to start training camp next week in order to prepare for the fight against the former belt holder.
"Unified 140-pound champion Jose Ramirez told Sports Illustrated that he will begin training camp this week with an eye towards rescheduling a twice-cancelled title defense against Viktor Postol in mid-July,” journalist Chris Mannix wrote on his Twitter page.
As we reported earlier, IBF world lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez Jr. (15-0, 12 KOs) doubts Vasyl Lomachenko's (14-1, 10 KOs) commitment to fighting him next.
“I cannot promise you guys anything. I do want the Loma fight, but as this pandemic keeps on going, its just making that fight slowly fading away. And I think they are waiting on it, though. That is the sh-t, and I hate it. They are waiting for it. They are waiting for me. They know I cannot make this weight anymore. They know I cannot make the weight. They know I cannot make the weight no more,” he stated.
