WBO, WBA and WBC lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko began his training camp for an upcoming match.
Lomachenko is scheduled to fight Teofimo Lopez, IBF champion, in a unification bout that would crown an undisputed champion of the lightweight division.
Ukrainian boxer traditionally starts his preparation in native Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky.
Meanwhile, Lomachenko's promoter, Bob Arum, is trying to set a venue for this magnifying clash.
“Lomachenko is fighting Lopez, that is done. Now the question is the site of the fight. We have Madison Square Garden bidding against Barclays in Brooklyn and we are also getting a bid from Saudi Arabia to do that fight,” Arum stated.
According to him, the date of the unification bout will depend on the venue.
“It will be April or a worst-case scenario it would be in May if it went to Saudi Arabia because it would be after Ramadan (the Muslim holy month that finishes on May 23),” he added.
Lomachenko was not able to “gather” extra information from Lopez’s previous bout against Richard Commey.
“To be honest, I did not have enough time to fully understand what happened, but in the two rounds that I saw I got the feeling that Lopez has flaws and problems in defense, so in one round, in the first round, he managed to take so many of Commey’s punches, and many of those did not need to be taken,” Vasyl emphasized.
