As the WBSS finale in Moscow approaches, Russian boxer Murat Gassiev uses the aid of the prominent Mexican coach, Abel Sanchez, considered one of the most respected and successful coaches in this sport. Gassiev said this while speaking to reporters before his fight with Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.
'I spent 18 fights in Russia - up to the point where I reached a certain level, and the progress ceased. I spoke to my team and decided to go to America to try the new training methods. Thank God, I managed to make it to the gym of Abel Sanchez - currently, the world's best coach. Our work proved fruitful. In Russia, I faced the trouble of choosing sparring partners - there are no guys within my weight category. But there's no problem with that in the U.S.', Gassiev said.
In his interview for WBSS official website, coach Abel Sanchez added the following: 'I always train my fighters to be the best they can be. It doesn’t matter what the other guys bring. How Usyk fought Briedis doesn’t mean he will fight Murat the same way. What you look for though is tendencies of what he likes to do and what he does after certain combinations. We have prepared Murat to be Murat and now Usyk will have to deal with him.'
WBSS website specified that the winner of Usyk-Gassiev at the Olympic Sports Complex will be the first boxer ever to win the Muhammad Ali Trophy and unify the cruiserweight titles in the four belt era. The belts on the line will be the WBO, WBC, IBF and WBA Super and RING Magazine’s vacant cruiserweight championship strap.
As is known, the Ukrainian and the Russian fighters will meet within the finale of the WBSS, the World Boxing Super Series. The fight will take place in Moscow on Saturday.
