Oleksandr Usyk (17-0, 13 KOs) and Dereck Chisora (32-9, 23 KOs) have faced each other for the first time during the press conference that took place in London. The broadcast was provided by Sky Sports.
The boxers and the promoters shared their opinions on the upcoming heavyweight collision.
Usyk's manager Egis Klimas stated that their team was digging for the belts that were "held" by the UK. "We need to face a tough opponent, and Chisora is a good fighter with big experience. That is why we chose that road," Klimas stated.
Oleksandr Krassyuk, promoter of the Ukrainian boxer, stated that he disagreed with the idea that bout against Chisora was the "easy one" for Usyk.
"Now we are back in the UK, this time - for the heavyweight challenge. I agree with the opinion that Chisora is the best option for Usyk to test himself in the heavyweight. I think this is going to be one of the biggest challenges of the Usyk's career. Dereck knows how to move, how to punch, but the good news is that Usyk knows that as well," he noted.
Chisora's manager David Haye believes that the changes in the date of the bout will benefit his fighter.
"He will have an opportunity to have a consistent training. Week by week he is getting better. He is looking good, we are very happy with where he is: the punch output, etc. Usyk has not done anything in the heavyweight yet. He faced and beat some big guys as an amateur, but Dereck Chisora is not going to try to outbox Usyk, he will drag him into a dog fight. I do not think that Usyk has been in such a tough fight," Haye stated.
As we reported earlier, the heavyweight clash between Oleksandr Usyk and Dereck Chisora is scheduled for May 23. The O2 Arena in London will host this electrifying bout.
