A true sensation occurred in the US Open, as Lesya Tsurenko beat the world's No.2 Caroline Wozniacki.
In the Round 2 fixture, the Ukrainian outplayed her Danish opponent in two sets (6:4, 6:2). Wozniacki resisted in the first but succumbed in the second, so it took Tsurenko half an hour to close books on that match.
In Round 3, Tsurenko will meet Czech athlete Katerina Siniakova who is now ranked 54th in the WTA rating.
Earlier, Ukraine's top tennis player Elina Svitolina avoided giving any comments to a reporter of the Russian branch of Eurosport channel. The outlet's producer Maksim Yanchevsky reported that via Twitter. 'Elina Svitolina refused to speak to Eurosport Russia on the court after the victory in Round 1 of the US Open. She said 'I'm sorry, I can't' (in Russian) as she exited the court. In January 2018, everything was fine,' Yanchevsky wrote. In his tweet, he put a like to the video where Svitolina speaks to a Russian reporter after her victory over Katerina Siniakova in the Australian Open.
