Five weightlifters, including two former Olympic champions from the ex-Soviet states, have been suspended after the repeated tests of their samples from the 2012 Olympics in London appeared to be positive for doping, as Radio Liberty reported.

“On December 23, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) identified the two former gold medal winners as Ukraine’s Oleksiy Torokhtiy and Uzbekistan's Ruslan Nurudinov. The IWF also said that Azerbaijan's Bulgaria-born Valentin Hristov, Armenia's Melanie Daluzian, and Belarus's Mikalai Novikau received suspensions,” the news agency's message reads.

It was also noted that the International Olympic Committee was responsible for the decision about any consequences connected with the participation of the athletes in 2012 London Olympic Games.

"In all cases where it is determined that an Antidoping Rule violation was committed, the responsibility to conduct results management will be transferred to the IWF in terms of consequences extending beyond the athletes’ Olympic Games participation," the message says.
