Ukrainian athletes - winners and prizewinners of the Olympics in Tokyo - were awarded cash prizes in the amount of $1,9 million by the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine responded to a request of

Athletes who took fourth, fifth and sixth places at the Olympic Games in Tokyo received a cash prizes in the amount of  $134 thousands.

As it was reported earlier, the Summer Olympic Games started on July 23 in Tokyo, Japan. More than 12,000 athletes from 206 countries competed in 33 sports, in which they won 339 Olympic medals.

In total, Ukrainian athletes won 19 medals at these Games - one gold, 6 silver and 12 bronze.

In terms of the total number of medals, Ukraine took 16th place, which is better than the result of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where Ukrainians won 11 medals. Although there the Ukrainians won 2 gold medals.

However, in the medal standings, which are most affected by gold medals, Ukraine took 44th place.

The only  gold medal was won on Olympic Games by wrestler Zhan Beleniuk.

Six silver medals were won by:

  • swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk in the 1500m freestyle
  • wrestler Parviz Nasibov
  • karateka Anzhelika Terliuga
  • canoeists Liudmyla Luzan and Anastasiia Chetverikova
  • boxer Oleksandr Khyzhniak
  • cyclist Olena Starikova

12 bronze medals at the Olympic Games were won by:

  • judoka Daria Bilodid
  • fencer Igor Reizlin
  • shooters Olena Kostevych and Oleh Omelchuk in a mixed team competition
  • swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk in the 800m freestyle
  • tennis player Elina Svitolina
  • wrestler Alla Cherkasova
  • Ukrainian artistic swimmers Anastasiya Savchuk and Marta Fiedina
  • wrestler Iryna Koliadenko
  • canoeist Liudmyla Luzan
  • karateka Stanislav Horuna
  • women's artistic swimming team (Vladyslava Aleksiiva, Maryna Aleksiiva, Kateryna Reznik, Anastasiya Savchuk, Kseniya Sydorenko, Marta Fiedina, Alina Shynkarenko, Yelyzaveta Yakhno)
  • athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh for high jump.
