Both Ukrainian teams lost the second leg of their fixtures in the playoffs of UEFA Europa League. It was the competition's Round of the Last 16; the games took place on Thursday night.

Dynamo Kyiv went to Spain for the away game against Villarreal. Unai Emery's men sorted things out early in the game, as Gerard Moreno opened the score with the header in the first few minutes of the match.

The home team kept the ball after that, too, and calmly played on Dynamo's half of the pitch. Later, Moreno doubled the score. Having lost the first half, Kyivites got their act together and tried to push forward but could not even narrow the gap in the score. It seems Villarreal played for pleasure, saving their strength.

Shakhtar Donetsk stood against AS Roma in Kyiv, at the NSC Olimpiysky stadium. With the loss in the first leg, the Mountaineers took the initiative early in the game and tried to breach the rival's defenses. But the Romans held their lines in a decent manner.

In the early second half, Shakhtar's defense men failed to seize Borja Mayoral, letting him open the score. However, the Ukrainian team re-grouped rather quickly and fought back; Junior Moraes managed to even the odds. The Mountaineers defended eagerly but could not hold Mayoral who scored again, killing the intrigue.
