Ukrainian swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk won a gold medal in the 1500m freestyle swimming at the World Championships in Hangzhou, China. It is reported by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine on its Facebook page.

"Mykhailo Romanchuk is a world champion! The final swim in the 1500m freestyle at the World Championships in short course in Hangzhou, China ended with a brilliant victory of the Ukrainian swimmer," the report says.

At the same time, it is specified that in the last meters he outstripped the titled Italian, Gregorio Paltrinieri, setting a record for the world championships in short water - 14.09.14.

"Congratulations to our swimmer. We are proud of him!" summarized the NOC of Ukraine.

Earlier, Romanchuk was named the best athlete of August by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. He won this title for the first time in his career after he received three medals at the European Championships in Glasgow: gold at 400 and 800 meters freestyle, and also silver at 1,500 meters freestyle.
