Ukraine’s men's national team successfully performed at the 42nd Chess Olympiad that has recently ended in the Azerbaijani capital. Before the last round, the Ukrainian players collected the same number of points as the U.S. team did. In the last round, Ukrainians defeated Slovenians (2.5 – 0.5), while the U.S. team outplayed Canadians (2.5 – 1.5). The jury had to count extra indexes to define the winner; the Americans proved to have an advantage. Thus, Ukrainians finished as runners-up.
Meanwhile, the women’s team finished third in the overall team rankings.
