Head coach of Ukraine's national football team Andriy Shevchenko opened up on the preparation for Euro-2020 and the results of the UEFA League of Nations 2020/2021 draws. This was reported by the press service of Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF).
"This is already an achievement - to get into the group with the strongest European teams. I have never expected weak rivals to be here. Yes, we are about to face strong teams, but it will be more interesting to play. Our football players will get real experience of playing in high-caliber matches, and viewers will be interested in watching the world's best national teams, so I consider the draw to be a successful one.
Our team has just achieved some success. That is a fact. Now you need to try to establish the presence in the elite division. Let us see if it works out for us. We have done a lot of work to get into League A. For each of the players it is a great motivation to show our strength against the strongest teams of Europe and the world. Gaining a foothold in League A will be even more of an achievement than just getting here.
I think, the stronger the team, the more interesting it will be to test yourself. There is no pressure on our team. The tournament has not started yet. It is designed to give you a chance to qualify through the League of Nations. But above all, it is an opportunity to gain experience, to play against good opponents. Matches against Spain, Germany, Switzerland - top-level teams are waiting for us," Shevchenko stated.
As we reported earlier, Ukraine's national football team is expected to have three "sparring" matches prior to Euro-2020.
In March, Shevchenko's wards are expected to play friendly matches with France (March 27) and Poland (March 31). After that, Ukrainians will have a friendly match against Cyprus national team on May 26.
