Ukraine to boycott 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia

Ukraine holds the negotiations with the football federations and fan organizations on the possibility to boycott the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia or holding of the protests within this event. Pavlo Klimkin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine claimed this as Interfax-Ukraine reported.

‘We negotiate with different federations. I can open this question. We also talk to different fan organizations towards the ways to open different political issues: boycotting this tournament or clearly stating the position on the stay in Russia’, Klimkin claimed at the press conference on the results of the Ukrainian diplomacy in 2017 and priorities for 2018.

According to the minister, the negotiations are held separately with the federations and organizations of the football fans.

As we reported Rebecca Harms, the MP of the European Parliament from the party of "greens" called on politicians and ordinary spectators to boycott the Football World Cup in Russia. According to Harms, Russia is not the country in which it is worth holding such a tournament. The politician noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin "will get too much attention" due to the world championship.
