Ukraine's national team managed to keep its rank in the medal standings in the Second European Games hosted in Minsk, Belarus. The credit goes to to the efforts of Ukrainian athletes who claimed another five medals on the final day of the competition, June 30.
Viktor Vykhryst, the heavyweight boxer, won gold in his sports. Gymnast Oleg Vernyayev took silver in the multiathlon event, while his teammate Diana Varynska claimed bronze. Two more bronze awards went to karate fighters Valeriy Chebotar and Halyna Melnyk.
The Second European Games kicked off in the Belarusian capital on June 21. Almost 4,000 athletes compete for 200 awards in 15 kinds of sport.
243 athletes represented Ukraine in this competition. The country's national team claimed 37 awards in general, losing the top three ranks to Russia (93 medals), Belarus (61) and Italy (35). Ukraine's athletes claimed 10 gold, 13 silver and 14 bronze medals.
