Alex Nurmagomedov, the uncle of renowned Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed that Khabib could have performed for Ukraine.  He mentioned this in his interview with Sport-Express, the Ukrainian sports outlet.

'We made maximum efforts so that Khabib receives citizenship of Ukraine. We value, love and respect Ukraine and its people. I say you can't find a better nation. They say home is where you were born. In my book, home is where you feel good. We planned that Khabib performs for Ukraine, but we could not do it. Khabib was offended because of this denial. He asked me why wouldn't they give him the passport, why would they assess the situation that way. I told him I don't know the reason and I could not do anything about it', Alex said.

After a scandalous victory over Connor McGregor, which ended up in a massive brawl Khabib may leave the UFC. But odds are he would not stay unemployed at all; the talks on a possible bout against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather are underway.

Khabib Nurmagomedov is a Russian professional mixed martial artist of Avar ethnicity. Nurmagomedov is a two-time Combat Sambo World Champion and the reigning undisputed UFC Lightweight Champion. He is undefeated in professional MMA, with 27 wins, holding the record for the longest undefeated streak in professional MMA history. Hailing from Russia's Dagestan region, he is the first Russian to win a UFC title. As of October 8, 2018, he is ranked #2 in the official UFC pound-for-pound rankings.
