Thursday is the game day in UEFA Europa League. As teams sort it out in the Round of the last 16, so do the squads from Ukraine, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv.
In Rome, Shakhtar will stand against AS Roma. The Italians led by ex-Shakhtar manager Paulo Fonseca will host the Ukrainian team in the first leg of this fixture. The game will kick off at Stadio Olimpico at 10 p.m.
Lately, Shakhtar has been in a tough spot after being kicked out of the Cup of Ukraine. Currently, the team faces problems both in defense and offense. Not even recent victories against Maccabi Tel Aviv fixed that. Roma, on the other hand, shows consistently good performance, first of all in the national championship. Manager Paulo Fonseca knows Shaktar really well, as he worked with them for two seasons; so, the Ukrainian team will need to come up with something to surprise their opponent.
The Ukrainian capital city will host the game between Dynamo Kyiv and Villarreal. The Kyivites led by Mircea Lucescu haven't been in their best shape in the national championship; however, they managed to pull off successful matches with AZ Alkmaar, Brugge KV and KAA Gent in the Europa League. Unai Emery's team also shows some promise in the competition's playoffs; the manager previously won two titles while working with Sevilla.
