A Moldovan team, the newcomer of UEFA Champions League, Sheriff FC has beaten Real Madrid at their home arena. The Round 2 game took place at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night.
Jasurbek Yakhshiboev opened the score for Sheriff, and Real only managed to even the odds after a successful penalty kick from Karim Benzema. A draw was not the best result for both teams, especially Sheriff as it came second in the Group D rankings at the moment.
Shortly before the final whistle, Sebastien Thill buried Los Blancos's last hopes for victory, which made the path to possibly the biggets upset for the Spaniards in several decades.
Earlier, Shakhtar Donetsk and Inter Milan played the game of Round 2 group stage of UEFA Champions League. The match took place at the NSC Olimpiysky stadium.
Shakhtar started lively, but neither Mountaineers nor Nerri Azzurri managed to open the score. Manor Solomon and Nicolo Barella lost their chances in the first half. The Ukrainian team took the ball and went for several well-lanned attacks. Inter did not expect such speed from their opponent, but they still coped with all sorts of threats coming from Shakhtar.
In the second half, Shakhtar kept the ball and did not give it back. The guests endured, and eventually got a chance to score. They would do so, if it wasn't for Andriy Pyatov, the Ukrainian goalkeeper. He parried the shots by Joaquin Correa and Stefan de Vrij, keeping the score 0-0.
