Ukraine and, specifically, Shakhtar Donetsk said goodye to UEFA Champions League in the current season. Paulo Fonseca's men came to Stadio Olimpico in Rome, hoping to keep their goals safe from Roma's attacks, which would let them qualify into the quarterfinals. But it proved otherwise, and gialo rossi celebrated the 1-0 victory in the home game.
In the first half, Shakhtar managed to keep the ball and played carefully, searching for the ways to penetrate the opponent's defense line. Ferreira even had a decent chance to score in one-on-one moment, but he could not succeed.
In the early second half, the Mountaineers failed to keep Džeko in the offside position. The Bosnian forward opened the score, which seemingly crushed the spirit of the Ukrainian team. Then, Shakhtar's Ordets fouled on Džeko and was sent off.
It's 1-0 in Rome, and Italians are now in the quarterfinals. Shakhtar goes home, though.
