Dynamo Kyiv played the first game in this season's UEFA Champions League, and opened the European season with a decisive home victory. The team stood against AZ Alkmaar; the game was played at NSC Olimpiysky in the Ukrainian capital.
In the very beginning of the game, the guests took the ball and attempted to score early. But Dynamo showed some decent defense, keeping the rival from using any opportunity to open the score.
This is how the game looked like in the first half, and it did not change much in the second. AZ rushed forward, but got themselves a goal instead. Rodriguez opened the score early in the second half; then, Shaparenko doubled the advantage, with five minutes before the final whistle. The Dutch resisted, landing two shots at Bushchan's goals, but the ball hit the crossbar twice.
Now, Dynamo will play in the qualification playoffs. Lucescu's team will face KAA Gent; the Belgian team surpassed Rapid (2-1).
