The upcoming Olympics in Tokyo may be canceled at the nick of time since a lot of contestants get Covid-positive test results.
Reuters cited Toshiro Muto, the chief of the Tokyo 2020 organising committee. The official said that the authority could not foresee what happens if the number of infected keeps increasing. "We have agreed that based on the coronavirus situation, we will convene five-party talks again. At this point, the coronavirus cases may rise or fall, so we will think about what we should do when the situation arises", Muto noted.
Earlier, two South African footballers became the first athletes in the Olympic village to receive positive PCR test results.
As is known, the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo are supposed to take place from July 23 through August 8. The Games, should they begin, will become the biggest Olympics in terms of kinds of sport and by categories - 33 and 339, respectively.
However, the foreign supporters will not be allowed in Japan due to the complicated epidemiological background.
