Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina began her performance at the WTA Internazionali BNL d'Italia tournament in Rome.
Ukraine's No.1 met with American Amanda Anisimova. The U.S. athlete managed to win the first set (2:6), but Svitolina got her act together and made the odds even in the second (6:3). In the third set, the two-time winner of WTA in Rome triumphed and defeated her opponent (6:4).
In the next round of the competition, Svitolina will play against either Garbiñe Muguruza or Bernarda Pera.
Last month, Svitolina lost the WTA Miami Open semifinal fixture against Ashleigh Barty. The American defeated her opponent in two sets (6:3, 6:3), though the Ukrainian managed to put up a fight with the world's No.1. "I think [with] Elina, you have to produce your best tennis. Happy with the way we were able to execute today”, Barty said after the event.
