Tennis: Svitolina, Yastremska start off by winning at Australian Open

Ukrainian tennis players only needed two sets to beat their opponents in Round 1

The matches of 1/64 finals of Australian Open tennis tournament are held on January 15. Several Ukrainian tennis players represent the country in the first round.

On January 15, the first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina joined Lesia Tsurenko. Svitolina got through comfortably in her opening round match against Viktorija Golubic from Switzerland (6:1, 6:2).

In the second round, Svitolina will face Viktória Kužmová, who earlier won in a match against Ukrainian Kateryna Kozlova. Ukrainian has won the first set 6:4 and continued the struggle in the second one, but lost it eventually. And in the third set, Kužmová has only gave up two games to her opponent.

Dayana Yastremska fought  against Samantha Stosur, Australian tennis player to get to the second round. If in the first set the players were mostly on par (which ended with Ukrainian winning 7:5), the second set was dominated by the Ukrainian who has only lost two games. In the second round, Dayana will face a 23-year-old world racket Carla Suárez Navarro from Spain.

As it was reported earlier, Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko has made it to the second round of Australian Open on January 14. 

Previously, Svitolina has risen three positions up in Women's Tennis Association (WTA) ranking. On October 28, Svitolina won in the final of the WTA tournament in Singapore. In the decisive match, the first racket of Ukraine beat American Sloane Stephens with the score of 3:6, 6:2, 6:2.
