Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina has officially left the WTA tournament in Melbourne, Australia.
Svitolina faced Belgian Elise Mertens. Elina lost the first set and started the second badly, losing 5:2. Nonetheless, Svitolina managed to even the score and brought some intrigue to the match. Unfortunately, Svitolina did not have any strength left for the final push and lost 10:6 in the super-tie break. This innovation was introduced by the WTA to reduce the duration of matches. Instead of the third set, the players have to play a super-break of up to 10 points.
Eliza Mertens (Belgium) - Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) 6:3, 5:7, 10:6.
It is worth noting that Marta Kostyuk, another Ukrainian tennis player, also lost the quarterfinal match to the American Jennifer Brady.
Both Kostyuk and Svitolina will now get ready for Australian Open: Svitolina will face Marie Bouzkova, and Kostyuk will square off with Veronika Kudermetova.
As we reported earlier, SK Dnipro-1 and Brazilian club Flamengo U-20 agreed on a transfer of right winger Bill Ferreira.
