Svitolina wins opening match of WTA Final Tournament

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina held her first match at the WTA Final Tournament in Shenzhen.

Svitolina met Carolina Plishkova from the Czech Republic. The first set was intense as both players tried their best in order to secure it but Svitolina was able to snatch victory in the tiebreaker (7:6;14:12). The second set was not that nerve-racking for Ukrainian player who ended it with a 6:4 score.

Ukraine's first racquet is in the Violet group, where she will play against Carolina Plishkova, Bianca Andreescu, and Simona Halep. Ashley Barty, Naomi Osaka, Petra Kvitova, and Belinda Bencic got into the Red Group.

The two strongest tennis players eventually get to the semifinals.

As we reported earlier, the world's No.3 in tennis Elina Svitolina proved victorious in the Round of the Last 16 of the WTA tournament in Zhengzhou, China.

The Ukrainian stood against Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan. The Kazakh athlete won the first set and then lost the second. The things went into a tie break, where Ukrainian made a tremendous comeback from 0-4. Eventually, Svitolina was the one to triumph (6:3, 1:6, 6:7).

Previously, the Ukrainian stood against Serena Williams in the US Open semifinals. It was their sixth meeting. The first set proved tough for the American, but Williams still won it (6:3). Svitolina fought back in the second but eventually gave in to the tougher and more experienced opponent (6:1).
