Earlier, Svitolina was eliminated from the tournament one step before the final of WTA Dubai.

In February 2019, Ukraine's national tennis team lost to Sweden in FedCup. Nadiya Kichenyuk and Marta Kostyuk were playing against Mirjam Björklund and Cornelia Emily Lister. Ukrainians started the game quite actively, leading the game with score 4:0. Nadiya and Marta pulled themselves together and won the set after losing two games in a row. At the beginning of the second set, the rivals turned it into a real hack and slash, where the Swiss girls won. It helped them win the second set. The third set was even tougher, the rivals did not let go of each other all the time. In the end, the Swiss team managed to break the opposite serves, so they ended the match on their serves.
