Ukraine's top tennis player Elina Svitolina qualified to the semifinals of the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon.
Svitolina stood against Karolina Muhova from Czech Republic. It took her two sets to beat the opponent, and the Czech fought for every set desperately.
It will be Svitloina's first semifinal in the Grand Slam competitions. Besides, she is the first Ukrainian to play at this stage in a Grand Slam tournament.
On July 11, Svitolina will face Simona Halep in the semifinal match of the Wimbledon tournament.
In May, the Ukrainian tasted a bitter defeat in Round 2 of WTA competition in Rome; she left the torunament after losing to Belarusian Viktoria Azarenko. Svitolina won the first set (6:4), but Azarenko's comeback brought her victory in the second (1:6). The third set appeared to be tough, eventually resulting in the Belarusian's triumph.
