Ukraine's No.1 tennis player Elina Svitolina played another fixture at Australian Open. She made another dash for the ultimate victory in this tournament, defeating Madison Keys from the U.S.
Svitolina won the first four games quickly and beat her opponent in the first set. In the second set, the American took the initiative, getting her revenge. But eventually, it was up to Ukrainian in the third set - and she said her word, winning the entire fixture.
Thus, Svitolina repeated her record in the Grand Slam competitions. The Ukrainian made it to the quarterfinals, the result that she never surpassed before in the top level competitions.
'I try hard to stay focused in the game, showing my best. I know I'm capable of struggling and beating the best ones (...) I've been working on my psychological skills for two years. I tried different techniques and approaches in searching whatever suits me. Different things work on different stages. I always search for motivation. The family helps me a lot,' she said.
Next, Svitolina will face Naomi Osaka from Japan. Previously, she beat Russian Anastasiya Sevastova in the Round of the Last 16.
Svitolina and Osaka will cross swords on January 23.
