Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina lost the fixture of US Open's quarterfinals. Her opponent was 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez from Canada.
The Canadian athlete won the first set, and Svitolina managed to even the odds in the second. The Ukrainian was losing the third set (2:5) but came back, taking the game to the tie break. Eventually, Fernandez defeated her opponent.
"Giving up is not an option. I left my heart there, but unfortunately, it's not the time. Well done Leylah, it was a bold performance. Thank you to US Open and all your love", Svitolina said after the fixture.
Earlier, Svitolina defeated her long-time rival Simona Halep in the US open playoffs. Сщming off a WTA title in Chicago, the Ukrainian stretched her win streak to nine matches by dispatching the Romanian 12th seed 6-3, 6-3 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
