Ukraine's No.1 tennis player Elina Svitolina won her third game in the WTA event in Singapore. She defeated Caroline Wozniacki, the reigning champion of the competition. The Danish athlete prevailed in the first set, but Svitolina managed to re-take control over the situation and won the remaining two sets.
Thus, the Ukrainian made it to the semifinals of the competition.
In the other fixture at this stage, Karolina Pliskova beat her compatriot Petra Kvitova and qualified for the semifinals, too.
Earlier, Svitolina defeated Czech Karolina Pliskova in the ongoing WTA event in Singapore. It took the Ukrainian three sets to beat the opponent (6:3, 2:6, 6:3). In the first and the third ones, she definitely dominated over Pliskova, losing only the second set.
Previously, 18-year-old Dayana Yastremska and Wang Qiang from China met in the finals of the Open Tennis Championship in Hongkong. It took Ukraine's No.3 two sets to win. Yastremska gave only three games in two sets by spending a little more than an hour for the final. The Ukrainian will receive $163 thousand for the victory.
Dayana Yastremska became the youngest tennis player who reached the final of the WTA in singles and won the title aged 18.
