Serhiy Kulish, the Ukrainian air rifle shooter mistakenly fired on his opponent's target during the 3-position rifle shooting competition in Tokyo Olympics. Press office of the National Olympic Committee reported that on August 2.
"I had one of my buttons undone; it was unconmfortable, but the time passed and I had to take my shot. It got on my nerves I guess. I'm having tough time, really. Such things happen once in a million cases, and it happened now", Kulish said after the competition.
After shooting from the knee, he came third; after shooting from a lying position, he was fourth. When it came to shooting from the standing position, Kulish hit the target of Petar Gorsa, the Croatian shooter. This cost him the chance to make it to the next round and compete for medals; otherwise, he would have finished third in the interim ranking and would then have a chance to get an award.
