Stanislav Horuna, the Ukrainian karate fighter qualified to the semifinal stage of Olympic competition in the weight category up to 75 kilograms. Thus, he guaranteed another medal for his team and country.

The Ukrainian finished second in his group, beating Ken Nishimura and Scott Thomas; the fixture with Gabor Harspataki ended as a draw. Then, Horuna lost to Egyptian Abdelaziz Abdalli; but still, there's a chance for him to triumph.

Earlier, Ukraine's karateka Anzhelika Terlyuga won silver in her weight category.

Four Ukrainian rowers successfullly qualified to the semifinals of Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. Men and women will represent their country in the respective events, writes Isport.

Pavlo Altukhov and Yuriy Vandiuk will perform in the 1000 m singles event. Prior to that, they came fourth in their qualifications and could not make it directly to the semifinal stage. However, they finished second in quarterfinals where the performers needed to end in Top 2; this let the Ukrainian athletes continue struggling for the medals.

Semifinal and final events will be played tomorrow, August 7.

Meanwhile, Lyudmyla Luzan and Anastasiya Chetverykova are to compete in the 500 m doubles event. In the quarterfinals, they defeated their rivals from Hungary by more than a whole second, leaving them in second place.

Curently, Ukraine holds already 13 medals - one gold, two silver and ten bronze.
