A 1/8 final match between the national teams of Spain and Croatia took place at the European Championship.
It was an extra-ordinary, eight-goal match that ended with a 5-3 victory for Spain. A bizarre goal gave Croats the lead, then Spain fought back to lead 3-1. Two late goals from the Croats forced extra-time. However, from there on, it was Spain who scored twice in three minutes to secure victory.
In the Euro quarterfinals, Spain will play with the winner of the Switzerland - France pair.
Croatia - Spain 3: 5
Earlier Belgium held Cristiano Ronaldo scoreless and defeated defending champion Portugal 1-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the European Championship.
Thorgan Hazard scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute. Hazard’s swerving shot from outside the area left Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patrício wrong-footed and late to swat the ball away.
Belgium will next face Italy in the quarterfinals on Friday in Munich.
