Head coach of Ukraine’s national football team Andriy Shevchenko believes that his players are in the process of developing their own signature style of play, press service of the Ukrainian Association of Football reports.
"I am glad the qualification came out very good. In my opinion, it is the first time in history we went through without defeat. I am very grateful to the guys for the game - it was not easy. Moreover, our fans did not have an opportunity to come and support us, which is very important for us,” Shevchenko stated.
“The guys did not stop, they were executing everything that we had planned in preparation. During the final seconds, we scored the goal we needed. It turned out to be a good match. Somewhere in the second half, especially at the beginning, we lost the thread of the game a bit, made a mistake and conceded a goal. But they found the strength, the desire, the fighting qualities to break the course of the match,” he added.
The head coach also admitted that the team was not able to be consistent throughout the match.
“We started the first half badly and the second half started really badly. We will talk about this with the guys because somewhere they were not able to understand. There was nothing special created but the penalty still occurred. I saw the replay, the ball hit the hand, so ... But the team did not stop, continued to play. We could see the picture of our game, but not at all the times. It is impossible to show good football every time, but we strive for it. A lot of guys did a good job, I'm generally happy.
As we reported earlier, Ukraine barely managed to defeat Estonia in a friendly match. The Yellow-Blues only scored in the extended time, thanks to the efforts of Roman Bezus and the ricochet from Estonian player.
