Shakhtar Donetsk and Lyon played a draw in the UEFA Champions League fixture. It was the first leg in Round 2 of the group stage, played in France.
The event took place without fans on Lyon's home stadium, as the team suffered a punishment from UEFA. This could be the reason why the home team started brightly, but the initial effort faded quickly. The French could have scored, but neither the defensemen nor the goalkeeper of the Mountaineers offered them enough chances to do that.
Briefly before the half-time, Lyon allowed a goal, with Moraes effectively finishing the low cross from Ismaili. Then, Shakhtar succeeded once again, and Moraes doubled the score.
At that point, it might seem the guests did just enough to keep the score and calmy secure the victory and the valuable three points. But Lyon kept on pushing and eventually managed to equalize. It actually took the French only three minutes to make the score 2-2.
Having lost a good opportunity to beat an experienced opponent in the away game, Shakhtar now prepares to the next game against Manchester City; the fixture is scheduled for October 23.
