Manchester City will host Shakhtar Donetsk at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night. The Mountaineers go to England for the away game, where they need a victory to improve their chances to qualify for the playoffs. Otherwise, it may be over for Shakhtar very soon.
Currently, the Group F standings look like this:
1. Man City - 6 pts
2. Olympique Lyonnais - 5
3. Hoffenheim FC - 2
4. Shakhtar Donetsk - 2
Last year, Shakhtar lost to The Citizens on Etihad; this time, they will try and get their revenge. The game is to kick off at 10 p.m. Kyiv time.
Paulo Foncesa's men are on a tight spot now. Not so long time ago, they lost to Man City in the fixture's first leg in Kharkiv; then, they put up a spectacular fight with Lyon in the League, and eventually beat Dynamo and Kyiv-based Arsenal FC in the home championship. The Mountaineers, thus, have their reasons to stand tall before this return leg with City; it's their chances to show what they're made of - not that it's going to be simple, though.
The Citizens are getting ready for the derby against Manchester United; so, their thoughts may as well be with the game slated for this weekend. Odds are the British will save the best for the far more powerful opponent, not spending too much effort to beat Shakhtar.
