Kyiv hosted the fixture of Round 3 of UEFA Champions League's qualification. Shakhtar Donetsk and KRC Genk crossed their swords for a slot in the qualification playoffs.
Since the very beginning of the game, Mountaineers took the ball and used short passes, thus counteracting the opponent's pressure. In the middle of the first half, the home team opened the score; Tete assisted Traore who sent the ball into the net from the penalty area.
Shakhtar carried on with their initiative. Belgians also had their moments, but their shoits were too wide, and sometimes the ball would hit the crossbar. Then, the Ukrainian team scored another goal - thanks to the efforts of Marcos Antonio.
Genk managed to pull one back; Cyriel Dessers successfully landed a shot from the penalty area. However, that was not enough for the Belgian team to win and proceed in the qualification play-offs.
Next, Shakhtar will face AS Monaco, which had previously defeated Sparta Prague and thus made it to the next stage of the competition, too.
