Yesterday’s loss in UEFA Champions League does not change much for Shakhtar Donetsk, as the team still can make it to the playoffs. Paulo Fonseca, the head coach, said that after the game as quoted by Shakhtar’s official web site.
‘It’s a tough outcome of such a game. We had great moments in the first half, which we should have used. In the second half, we also did well – until the first goal scored by Insigne; and then it all went wrong. It was not supposed to happen that way… After the first goal that we lost, we were forced to open and go for more risks. That’s probably why we suffered that loss. Our chances are the same as before this game. We need another point. I still believe in my team,’ Fonseca said.
As Man City defeated Feyenoord and now enjoys five victories in five games, the Ukrainian team finds itself on a tough spot. Shakhtar will host the Citizens in the home game in Kharkiv, and they need to make it at least a draw – or win – in order to proceed to the playoffs. If the Mountaineers lose, their only hope to qualify for the playoffs will be Napoli’s draw or loss to Feyenoord in the Netherlands.
