In February, the International Olympic Committee decided that the 2032 competition will be held in Brisbane. It was a sudden decision, and the governments of both countries turned to the IOC, protesting against such move. Both North and South Korea ask the IOC to consider other veunes.
"South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un agreed to pursue the joint Olympics bid at their summit in Pyongyang in late 2018. But relations have soured since a summit between Kim and then U.S. President Donald Trump in 2019 failed to reach agreement on North Korea’s denuclearisation, in which Moon had offered to play a mediating role", reads the article.
Earlier, China, Qatar, Hungary and Germany placed their bids to host the Olympic Games in 2032. The ultimate decision regarding the venue will be made in 2021 or 2022.
