The Executive Committee of the IOC held a session in Lausanne, Switzerland; the members discussed Russian Olympic team’s participation in the forthcoming Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Inside The Games reported that on Tuesday.
Dennis Oswald and Samuel Schmid released their joint report on the facts of use of doping by the Russian athletes in 2014 – as well as the Russian government’s involvement in the doping program.
Based on the report and the discussion that followed, the IOC officials decided to suspend Russia from the competition, which is slated for February 2018.
The athletes who appeared to have passed the test for banned substances will be able to perform during the Games in the team, which uses the Olympic flag; the Russian anthem will also be replaced, and the Olympic anthem will sound instead.
