Ukrainian athlete Oleg Vernyayev claimed silver award in artistic gymnastics event, which took place on August 10 in Rio, where the Olympics are underway. According to Ukraine’s Olympic Committee's press service, the gold went to Japanese Kohei Uchimura, the Olympic champion of London 2012. The dramatic struggle between the Ukrainian and the Japanese lasted until the very last moments of the event; eventually, Uchimura surpassed Vernyayev by mere 0,099 of a point. The bronze went to British Max Whitlock.
Previously, Ukraine’s tennis player Elina Svitolina - a bit surprisingly - beat Serena Williams, the world’s No.1 among women (6:4, 6:3). Williams burst into tears as she was leaving the court – some say she might finish career after this match.
