‘The most difficult thing was to stand against my teammate Alina Komashchuk. We performed in many competitions, yet we have never met as opponents before. And now it happened during the Olympics; I was extremely worried about that. I realized I had to win this medal. Well, the competitions continue, and we’ve got a team event ahead of us, so we’ll be fighting right till the end’, Olga Kharlan said in her interview with the National Olympic Committee.
That was soon after she claimed bronze in the individual saber fencing event; Kharlan defeated French Manon Brunet. The gold and silver went to Russian fencers Yana Yegoryan and Sofia Velikaya, respectively.
