On August 7, weightlifters struggled for two sets of medals of the ongoing Summer Olympics in Rio. China’s Qingquan Long, the 25-year-old triumphant of Beijing 2008, claimed the main prize again. Competing in his 56 kilogram-weight division, the athlete lifted 307 kilograms in total (137 in snatch and 170 in clean & jerk). Thus, he has set the new world record with this total result, and the weight that he lifted became a new Olympic record.
The previous world record (305 kg) was set by Turkish weightlifter Halil Mutlu during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
