The light-welterweight duel for WBC and WBO titles between Viktor Postol and Jose Ramirez has been postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Initially, their fight was supposed to take place on February 1, in China. However, it was moved to the USA; the bout would be hosted by the Save Mart Center in Fresno on May 9. But, according to Bob Arum, promoter of both fighters, the fight will be put off.
"It is just awful for Jose and Viktor. They started training camp twice, and their fight had to be canceled twice. But these guys are real professionals. And when all this is over, they will give Fresno fans an incredible performance. The fight will take place. The main thing is that nothing threatens the safety of athletes and fans," Arum stated.
Jose Ramirez also shared his opinion on the fight being rescheduled for the second time.
"I will remain extremely collected. I understand that the safety of our nation must come first. We will go through this all together," he said.
As we reported earlier, the boxing bout between Oleksandr Usyk (17-0, 13 KOs) and Dereck Chisora (32-9, 23 KOs) was delayed until a later date.
