Ukrainian police opens criminal case after racism scandal

Police opened a criminal case under the article "Violation of citizens' equality based on their race, nationality or religious preferences" (Part 1 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), regarding the events that occurred during the football match between Shakhtar – Dynamo Kyiv, which took place in Kharkiv.” This was reported by the press service of the National Police of the region.

A racist scandal occurred during a football game between Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk. The incident took place in Kharkiv on November 10, as Dynamo fans verbally attacked Brazilian players from the opposing team.

Eventually, Taison, the midfielder of the Mountaineers lost it and flipped the fans off. The referee sent him off and stopped the game to calm down the tension. Taison burst into tears as he left the arena.

Both teams publicly condemned the manifestation of racism. The incident will be now investigated by the Control and Disciplinary Committee of the Ukrainian Premier League. 

As we reported earlier, Dynamo Kyiv will be punished for the racism scandal in a match against Shakhtar Donetsk FC.

According to the Football 1 TV Channel, the Control and Disciplinary Committee of Ukrainian Association of Football will apply the maximum penalty to Dynamo Kyiv - a fine in the amount of 27-55 thousand dollars and a match without spectators.

The consideration of the case will begin when the committee receives the report made by the referee of the match, Mykola Balakin.
