Tokyo held the opening ceremony of Paralympic Games.

According to ВВС, the ceremony began at 2 p.m. Kyiv time; no viewers were allowed to attend the National Stadium in the Japanese capital due to coronavirus pandemic restrictions. However, members of delegations and representatives of foreign countries were present. Emperor Naruhito himself arrived to participate in the event. Andrew Parsons, the President of the International Olympic Committee visited the stadium, too.

Ukraine's swimmers Yelyzaveta Mereshko and Viktor Smyrnov carried the flag of their country.

Paralympians will have to abide by many rules - in the view of the emergency mode in Tokyo. They are required to take tests on a daily basis, keep the social distance and wear masks.

"I'm sure that these Games will be safe. But that doesn't mean there will be no new cases of infection", Parsons said.

The Japanese government hopes that the Paralympic Games will make the society more inclusive. This year, Tokyo hosted 4,400 athletes who perform in 22 kinds of sport.
