Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk held an open workout before his heavyweight debut against American Chazz Witherspoon.
The fight will take place on October 12. Boxers conducted open training sessions today in front of the fans and media in order to show their shape for an upcoming bout.
As we reported earlier, Usyk was supposed to fight the Dutchman Tyron Spong. But Spong failed the doping test and Eddie Hearn urgently had to look for a replacement. Name of a 42-year-old Russian boxer Alexander Ustinov was in talks, but eventually, Usyk’s team was able to negotiate with Witherspoon.
Chazz Witherspoon is a 38-year-old heavyweight with a record of 37-3. Started his career in 2004, his first defeat happened only 4 years later – a TKO loss to Chris Arreola. In 2009, Tony Thompson was able to secure a victory over him. And in 2012, Seth Mitchell TKO’d Witherspoon in a fight for vacant World Boxing Organisation NABO Heavy Title. Since then, Whitherspoon has had 8 matches, all of which ended in a way of victory.
