UEFA controlling and disciplinary body confirmed that Júnior Moraes has legal rights to play in the Ukrainian team in football matches with Portugal and Luxembourg, as Andriy Pavelko, the Head of the Football Federation of Ukraine, wrote on Facebook. Therefore, the team will keep its scores and it will continue to lead the selection group during Euro-2020.
“UEFA controlling and disciplinary body confirmed that Júnior Moraes have legal rights to play in the Ukrainian team in football matches with Portugal and Luxembourg! We will always protect the national team and its players – true patriots of Ukraine – in both UEFA and FIFA. Júnior has proven that he is its patriot. While many football players left Ukraine when the war began in Donbas, Moraes remained loyal to our country, he has chosen it as a new motherland for his family and made a conscious civil choice in favor of our state. Bravo, Moraes! I wish him success and goals for the main team of Ukraine! I invite the fans of the team to support football player in next matches with Serbia and Luxembourg which are to be held in Lviv in the beginning of June! Glory to Ukraine!” he wrote.
After Ukraine – Portugal game (0:0) and Ukraine – Luxembourg game (2:1) the football officials of these states appealed to UEFA with a complaint – they accused Football Federation of Ukraine of violating the rules of naturalization of Shakhtar forward Júnior Moraes. Ukraine’s team could have lost scores in the games with Moraes.
Ukraine’s team headed the selection team for Euro-2020 having four scores in the asset.
