According to Alexandr Shprygin, head of the all-Russian union of football fans, on June 12, about 40 policemen armed with machineguns came to the hotel where Russian fans currently are staying. Shprygin said that French gendarmes blocked all floors and demanded that Russians show them their tickets for games. “It’s an awful procedure, a violation of rights of citizens. You have rest in your hotel room, and suddenly, the police break into your suite, give a whistle, wake you up, record your passport data and take photos”, the leader of Russian fans noted.
According to French Prosecutor’s Office, some 150 Russian hooligans were involved in fights with British supporters that took place before and after the game between their national teams, which took place in Marseille on June 11. Twenty people were detained; ten of those are to appear in court on Monday.
