The Congress of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) that took place in Turkey awarded the title of the international Grandmaster to 15-years old chess-player from Kyiv Kyrylo Shevchenko. He became the youngest Grandmaster of Europe and the second youngest in the world as the Chess Club of Sports School #3 of Kyiv reported at Facebook.
At the moment, there is only one Grandmaster who is younger then Kyrylo Shevchenko. It is a citizen of America Awonder Liang who is 14-years old.
According to trainer Volodymyr Balkan, Kyrylo fulfilled all Grandmaster’s norms in July and was awarded the title in October because there was any FIDE congress earlier as journalist Evgen Kuzmenko reported.
Kyrylo fulfilled the norm of the master of sports when he was nine and at the same time, he became the Champion of Europe in Blitz among the children under 10-years old. Also, Kyrylo was a bronze medalist at the world championship among children who won such great chess tournaments as ‘Pfalz Open’ and ‘Armenia Grand Prix’.
