Junior Moraes, the Brazilian forward who currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk could join the national team of Ukraine in the near future.
Earlier this month, the Ukrainian media reported that the Brazilian filed the documents to get the citizenship of Ukraine. Oleksandr Denysov, the head of the board of Futbol TV channels in Ukraine said that Moraes would become the citizen of Ukraine quite soon, 'within a matter of days'.
'Quite probably, Junior Moraes will get the Ukrainian passport, with mere technical moments remaining to be solved. It means that Junior Moraes might be summoned for the national team even before the game against Portugal, and he will be preparing for the game', Denysov said.
Paulo Fonseca, the head coach of Shakhtar also assumed that the player could be summoned for the national team. 'It will be a good situation. Moraes is the best forward in Ukraine, he'll help the team. Shevchenko (the head coach of Ukraine's national team, - 112 International) is actually very good, as he completely rejuvenates the team. I guess he's on the right path. I already told that to my friends from Portugal so that they do not get the idea it's too easy. The Ukrainian team has been better and better lately, there are strong players there. I think Ukraine can get a higher hand against Portugal', Fonseca said.
Junior Moraes came to Ukraine in 2011, when Metalurg Donetsk paid Romania's Gloria Buzau FC 1.25 million Euros for the forward. In 2015, he switched to Dynamo and played three seasons with the Kyivites. Then, he signed the contract with Shakhtar. Currently, Junior Moraes leads the way among the top goal scorers, with 21 goals scored.
